This gene encodes a kinetochore protein that functions aspart of the minichromosome instability-12 centromere complex. Theencoded protein is required for proper kinetochore assembly andprogression through the cell cycle. Alternative splicing results inmultiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2009].

Function:
Part of the MIS12 complex which is required for normalchromosome alignment and segregation and kinetochore formationduring mitosis.

Subunit:
Component of the MIS12 complex composed of MIS12, DSN1,NSL1 and PMF1. Also interacts with CASC5, CBX3 and CBX5.

Subcellular Location:
Nucleus. Chromosome, centromere,kinetochore.
