流行感冒病毒（influenza virus），是正粘病毒科（Orthomyxoviridae）的代表種，簡稱流感病毒，包括人流感病毒和動物流感病毒，流感病毒分為甲（A）、乙（B）、丙（C）三型，是流感的病原體。其中甲型流感病毒抗原性易發(fā)生變異，多次引起世界性大流行。例如1918～1919年的大流行中，*至少有2000萬～4000萬人死于流感；乙型流感病毒對人類致病性也比較強，但是人們還沒有發(fā)現(xiàn)乙型流感病毒引起過世界性大流行；丙型流感病毒只引起人類不明顯的或輕微的上呼吸道感染，很少造成流行。甲型流感病毒于1933年分離成功，乙型流感病毒于1940年獲得，丙型流感病毒直到1949年才成功分離。
根據(jù)流感病毒感染的對象，可以將病毒分為人類流感病毒、豬流感病毒、馬流感病毒以及流感病毒等類群，其中人類流感病毒根據(jù)其核蛋白的抗原性可以分為三類:
甲型流感病毒（Influenza A virus），又稱A型流感病毒
乙型流感病毒（Influenza B virus），又稱B型流感病毒
丙型流感病毒（Influenza C virus），又稱C型流感病毒
感染鳥類、豬等其他動物的流感病毒，其核蛋白的抗原性與人甲型流感病毒相同，但是由于甲型、乙型和丙型流感病毒的分類只是針對人流感病毒的，因此通常不將流感病毒等非人類宿主的流感病毒稱作甲型流感病毒。
在核蛋白抗原性的基礎(chǔ)上，流感病毒還根據(jù)血凝素HA和神經(jīng)氨酸酶NA的抗原性分為不同的亞型。
